We will be hosting our infamous Summer Edition at club AIR on Friday the 29th of July. After a great birthday bash in May, with super star performances of Martinez and all the Carnivale residents, the time has come for a new chapter in the Carnivale saga. Dance floor pleasure is guaranteed with international guest appearances by Danny Serrano and Mihai Popoviciu. Danny Serrano has been responsible for many floorkillers that rocked clubs all over the world in the past couple of years. But also the quality performance behind the decks of this Spanish star haven’t gone unnoticed, which resulted in residencies at clubs such as Space (Ibiza) and Fabrik (Madrid). The same can be said about Mihai Popoviciu. Over the years this Romanian hero has produced many well-received tracks on labels such as HighGrade, Kling Klang and Fear of Flying. Thus, he’s considered to be one of the most innovative Eastern European artists of the moment. After a top notch gig he played for us during Zanadu in BC12 last year, we’re more than happy to have him back again! As usual further musical support comes from Dutch territory. The main area will be opened by the upcoming talents [...]

On Thursday the 30th of September we (Radiosus, Mind 01 and LoPoll) set sail for the UK, destination: Leeds, for a gig at Teknicolor in the city’s freshly refurbished Mint Club. We would be playing alongside our good friends Marshan and Michael James. After a lot of get together’s in Amsterdam and Ibiza, and some really nice sets from Michael James, at three of our parties, of which the Queensday special was arguably the greatest success. The Teknicolor crew who attended there were amazed by the energy and the Carnivale sound, and that moment marked the beginning of a new alliance. We flew in on Thursday, for what was going to be a crazy weekend. After a short chill with our mates, it was time to set of to Mint. We only knew the club from rumours and good stories, which gave us a good impression, but of course, stories can never give the vibe you get from actually being there. The moment we walked in, we immediately noticed that it was a real compact, cosy, party venue with a great Function One sound system. The club is famous for its sound system and its Watergate-like LED ceiling, hence our high [...]

Leeds and Berlin haven’t got a lot in common. They’re miles away from each other, literally and figuratively. Where Berlin has grown from a regional city to the capital of an Empire, Leeds has grown from a regional city to a regional city, but then a bit bigger than before. And where Leeds owes its growth to the Industrial Revolution, Berlin owes its development to Prussian Realpolitik. So historically there would really be no point in comparing the two. But – if you leave history where it belongs, which is on bookshelves – the two have way more in common then you would expect. One of the similarities is the fact that both cities have excellent universities – and the thriving student communities to prove it. Another, which is slightly related, is the fact that both cities have a young population. Nearly half of the people living in Berlin and Leeds are under 35. But there is even more; in both cities less than 5% of the population believe in unicorns (which is still less than in Texel or Kursk) and there where no piano key ties sold last year in neither Leeds nor Berlin. Both cities have a Zoo, [...]

Now that we’ve reached the end of summer, the time has come to herald the new clubbing season with a fresh episode of Carnivale. Your favourite band of wandering entertainers will settle in AIR on Friday the 24th of September for a night of beastly pleasure. This special edition will yet again be marked by an international cooperation, this time with the British collective Channel Zoo. They came to Holland for the first time last year in November and turned our night in Studio 80 completely upside down. For those of you who are not yet familiar with these Brits: over the last couple of years they’ve made a name for themselves as Zoo Project in Ibiza and are responsible for all kinds of craziness in an old abandoned zoo. But the summer is short. So they created Channel Zoo to spread their party ideology outside The Island throughout the rest of the year. Two of their finest party animals will be sent to AIR for this occasion. First of all, the young and very talented Michael James will be hitting the decks in the main area. After tearing the street apart with a mind-blowing set during our outdoor Queensday [...]

My Carnivale Kings…. As a fellow promoter/agency manager I was looking forward to the Carnivale DJ showcase…. of course joined by Michael James & Terry Toner Having been to street parties before I knew what to expect (or so I thought….) but those of you who have been lucky enough to experience Queens Day in Amstersdam will know that this day is different to any other The placing of the open air Carnivale stage was perfect…. lots of cool bars like Ocho (which is my lucky number) and Ibiza (my second favourite place after Amsterdam) which gave me a good feeling about the day! Lots of people were using the street as a thoroughfare but most ended up staying for a little rave as the DJs took the ladder to the stage high up on scaffolding – like a king to his throne…. Kassassie & Helt started proceedings early handing over to Freddie Lucas & Radiosus (donning a bright orange trilby!) as the street started to fill up – as did the air with some nice techno grooves…. Getting the party into full swing with their disco sounds Maketoire & Pennypacker kept the crowds smiling in the Dutch sun, with [...]
